Thursday ~ Week 2

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”

~ The Buddha

Happy Thursday lovely!

Today's Poddy Love Letter

Good morning!
‍‍
Let’s begin this beautiful morning with some deep breaths, bee-breaths and hums… drop your shoulders, twirl your wrists & ankles, gently move your neck ... and settle into your body. Take a moment to mentally check in with your “Ta-Da” list, and give yourself lots of credit for all of your showing up thus far.

And now check in with your inner ecosystem… what’s your personal weather like today? Try not to judge it, just notice. What would feel kind and nourishing in this moment?

This is the part of the class where we begin getting even more inquisitive. Genuine, gentle curiosity about ourselves is one of the greatest gifts we can offer ourselves. It's so good to notice what or who energizes us, or depletes us, when we feel most creative, when movement feels best, what foods leave us feeling vibrant, grounded, or sluggish… and then, to make beautiful, informed decisions from that knowledge.

All of this self-inquiry goes hand in hand with saying “thank you” and “I love you” to our bodies. It is a way of really relating to ourselves with kindness instead of criticism, curiosity instead of control. And when the body feels met gently, rather than judged, it can soften. It begins to understand that we are no longer working against ourselves, but alongside ourselves… as an ally, a teammate, a friend. It's profound the changes that can come about from this simple (though not easy) change.

From that place, something lovely begins to happen. As we slowly start believing we are worthy of care, we naturally begin reaching for deeper nourishment and making more loving choices.

So now that we’ve entered the second half of our class, this is a powerful moment to ask:

What can I release to make room for the nourishing, good stuff?

We’ve spent time focusing on our Yes List ~ what we are choosing to bring into our lives to crowd out the other stuff. But now we can also shine more of a light on our No List ~ the things we may lovingly let go of to create more room for what we truly want to grow. A little weeding around our intentionally planted seeds. Allowing the flower to get the nutrients!

You might journal or make lists around these things you’re ready to let go of: negative self-talk, mindless-scrolling, phones in the bedroom or bathroom, over-committing, people pleasing, over-apologizing, late-night snacking, ultra-processed foods, slouching, rushing, harsh inner dialogue… and then beside each one, write what you’d like to invite in instead.

Remember, nature releases constantly and we are a part of nature ~ we are unwittingly always letting go. In spring time the cherry trees let go of blossoms to make room for green leaves. And the lovely sunny dandelions scatter their seeds as they make wishes into the wind. Letting go is really just part of being.

Some gentle prompts to ponder:

  • What limiting beliefs might be holding you back?

  • Is there a habit you’d like to end? One you’d like to begin?

  • Is there a food, drink, or coping mechanism you may be ready to set aside for now?

  • Are there physical things in your home you no longer need, but feel emotionally tied to?

  • Do you ever speak to yourself in a way you would never ever speak to someone else?

Weekend Preparedness ~

No matter how you interpret “inward-bound,” this is an opportunity to more intentionally turn toward yourself and focus on your wellness needs. This kind of purposeful slowing down can be deeply healing, especially if you’ve been carrying a lot of heavy energy, emotion, stress, fear or anxiety.

Even if you can’t fully immerse, you can still weave in small nourishing practices ~ more herbal tea, more sky-gazing, more deep breaths, more quiet moments.

Right now is a very good time to begin mapping things out and setting yourself up for success (even if you're planning for next week). A little preparation can make the whole experience feel far more supportive, grounded and easeful.

Think about preparing yourself both practically and emotionally ~ from ingredients, to mindset, to schedule.

  • When will you shop for ingredients and prepare your broths/juices?

  • If you’ve liquid fasted before, would you like to deepen the experience this time? (Or perhaps simply keep it very gentle and nourishing.)

  • How long would you like your liquid fast (within the inward-bound weekend) to last, even if that changes along the way?

  • If you’re not liquid fasting, what nourishing meals are going to be on your menu?

  • What might you want to avoid for these few days? (This could be certain foods, social media, the news, over-scheduling, or particular environments/people that leave you depleted.)

  • What would help this to feel like the most tender, restorative experience for you?

  • How would you like to spend your time? (Reading, walking, gardening, creating, spring-cleaning, journaling, resting, dancing, decluttering?)

  • How will you check in with yourself? (Journaling, voice notes, our WhatsApp group, chatting with a cleanse buddy?)

  • If you have done this before, what can your previous experience teach you?

Remember, this is nourishment not punishment ~ it’s deep self care. And you really do get to set the rules here. There is plenty of room to personalize this experience, and you are of course allowed to adjust as you go. But I do find that having a loose plan in place tends to feel much more supportive than winging it entirely.

If you’re planning to liquid fast, it can help to ease in gently by focusing on nourishing, fiber-rich plant foods beforehand ~ cruciferous vegetables, berries, mushrooms, avocado, soups, rainbow coloured veggies, herbal teas, and lots of waterI also recommend keeping things simple and lighter for the 24 hours before and after your fast ~ and not eating meat, dairy, nuts and legumes on the days just before and just after.

Please do check in with the group on whatsapp ~ share your intentions, your plans, your questions, or simply pop in and say hello. There’s something very comforting about remembering we’re doing this alongside one another.

Have a really beautiful day,

Lots of Love Love and Love

Google Doc with information on our inward-bound weekend.

this piece of music is absolutely gorgeous - maybe to accompany a moving or seated meditation, or just because.

Here, also you will find more thoughts on journaling from the NYTimes (I have transferred onto a google doc for you).

I have shared lots of good stuff here with you about letting go and fasting.

And please treat yourself to this delightful, beautiful poem: "Wonderful" by Harry Baker -- because you are!
