Tuesday ~ Week 2
Before you grow a garden, you clean the beds. You pull weeds by the roots. You clear the space so something new can grow. If you want to grow a life you love, you have to clear out the metaphorical weeds." ~ Katie Spring
Happy Tuesday lovely you!
(I hope to see you in the Zoom Room at 12:30, link at the foot, and in the community tab) Love to get a sense of who is coming if you can drop me a line…
First, a quick bit o’ housekeeping:
There was a tech glitch with the podcast yesterday…if that happens again, and/or if an email doesn’t land in your inbox ~ you can always go to Daily Chapters, the week in question + then the particular day, where you’ll find the email with link to the pod (back up system). It happens on occasion during the class that gremlins get in the system, but this is usually pretty fail safe.
And also, so I can best serve you all as a group, I'd love to use our Whatsapp for communication. Let’s keep posts sweet and short-ish. It’s a great place for sharing our wins while encouraging each other, and the best place to ask your wonderful questions. thank you so much.
So, now let's settle in...
How are you feeling today?
What’s your internal weather forecast?
How is your inner child? Your inner wise woman?
Take some deep nourishing breaths: in and out through your nose if possible. Allow your shoulders to relax, your jaw to relax, your hands to soften. Invite in a few sweet bees breaths (cupping your neck with your hands can make this exercise feel even more lovely).
We began this week by looking at the way we speak to and about ourselves, finding ways to hold hands with our inner child and be held + guided by our inner elder. Today, I would love us to take that beautiful energy and direct it very specifically to making the most nourishing choices.
Here in the northern hemisphere, it’s spring. Depending on geography that looks a little bit different for each of us ~ some of you are more further ahead than others of us, but no matter where you are, this is a season of gentle unfurling, awakening, and leaning to the light. And things move very quickly. (Just noticing the rapid growth of the seeds on my window sill is a good reminder of this.)
And so we dive in. There is no time like the present.
Let’s increase our intake of greens to support the liver (bitter greens like dandelion and arugula, cruciferous greens, sprouts of all kinds, spinach, broccoli, green juices/nettle tea), while also looking at more greenery with our eyes + thinking green thoughts. (What is growing in your area? Ramps, nettles, rhubarb?)
Here is a short article with a list of the best foods to nourish the liver.
Let us take in more fresh air, and enjoy more time outside, just because.
Movement snacks are mandatory now ~ try to move and wiggle and stretch at the top of the hour. If you have to get from place to place, do so creatively with a little shimmy in your stride. Make it playful.
Hydration (also on top of the hour, pair it with your wiggle snacks)
Deep conscious breaths and bees breath humming ~ in the shower, in the car, on the subway, while you are cooking.
How does your garden grow?
Using the spring garden analogy, it’s time now to pull out the “weeds” and allow all the nourishment to go toward the lovely flower that you are. While there is much to be gained by adding in, there is also a lot of nourishment to be found by removing and eliminating (the weeds). If you’re still holding on to old security blankets, like that second (or third) cuppa coffee, or you still have your phone in the bedroom, or are dining with the news on, or eating on the run … this is the moment to nip those things.
This is definitely not about perfection but about consistency.
These little things really are the big things. As we continue to make small, mindful choices, we can welcome in a deeply holistic experience.
“Practice makes better” (a phrase we used in the Pre-K classroom I taught, many moons ago).
Other ways to nurture your beautiful self
- Try to drink the majority of your water (and herbal tea) within the first ten hours of being awake. Slow it down in the evening for better sleep. Sip steadily throughout the day ~ your kidneys will thank you.
- Drink something before your meals, perhaps while cooking (but not during), so your saliva and teeth can begin the digestive process efficiently.
- When a craving strikes (for anything, not just food), sip a glass of water first. As you’re hydrating, listen to the inner wise woman who can help you determine what you really need instead, and what might be a more nourishing choice?
Some ways to reduce stress
– Mindful breathing, humming, bees breath
– Tidy or organize a small space
– Write in your journal (use the 5,4,3,2,1 technique I shared yesterday)
– Step away from your screens
– Look at the sky and watch the clouds go by
– Spend time with a fluffy friend
– Say “no” if you usually say “yes”
– (Or maybe try to say “yes” if you usually saying “no”)
– Ask for help + delegate
– Invite your inner child to play (and maybe let your inner 5 year old pick out your clothes for the day)
– Invite your inner elder to create the menu for the week.
Move with Joy
Walk, wiggle, stretch, balance, dance, squat, twirl, pliet, handstand, hoop, cartwheel… lots of mini movement snacks.
Let your body delight in all the fabulous things it can do, the shapes it can make, and all the magical inner workings.
See this short article for more info about moving after eating.
Preparing for the Weekend
The weekend’s coming up, and I want you to be ready. We will discuss more as we go, but whether or not you plan to liquid-fast, please review the Google Doc with information on our inward-bound weekend. It’s full of useful guidance and gentle suggestions, as well as a bunch of links you may find interesting. This will be an opportunity to go further into our chrysalises, to do some deep work. And for any of you who are traveling, or working, or busy over the weekend, you can most certainly apply this inward bound chrysalis study to early next week instead.
Have a lovely, lovely day... see you in the zoom room (actually I'd love to get a sense of who can make it... if you are reading this before noon, let me know).
Love love love love,
Sacha xxx
