Shedding Old Stories

Journaling as a way to help release old stories ~

  1. Write about something you truly want to accomplish, whether it’s small or epic.

  2. Ask yourself: What are your "Constrictive Stories"?

    • Do you hold any subconscious cultural biases about yourself?

    • What do you tell yourself to stay small?

    • What’s holding you back or getting in your way?

    • What have you told yourself you’re not good at, strong enough for, or worthy of?

(Examples: "I’m too ____, I’m not good enough at _____, there are already so many ____ out there, who am I to do this?")

  3. Now, let’s change the tape!

Imagine pushing these limiting beliefs aside ~ what would your life look like then? How would it feel to meet your goals?

    Write freely, openly, and embellish!

Alternative Style

  1. On a piece of paper, write down one or two "old tapes" that you’ve replayed in your mind (e.g., "I’m not good at _____," or "If only I ______").

  2. Tear them up or (safely) burn them!

  3. Rewrite them in the positive:

    • What are you good at?

    • What do you have?

    • Come up with a new landscape.

  4. List things that could become possible once you meet these goals.

This exercise helps tackle self-sabotage and paves the way for new possibilities.
