Saturday - Week 1
To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest.”
~ Pema Chödrön
Hello sweet pea,
Just notice that in places the podcast picked up the heavy winds (but you can still hear clearly)
Aaaaah, deep exhale! We have arrived at the weekend. For some of you this means a chance to stretch and breathe a little deeper.
Take a moment now to bring attention to your breath. Drop your ears, move your neck around gently, see where you can soften and release and let go. Breathe a little more tenderly to any areas that may feel tight or sore. And as you're breathing, see what your inner weather report looks like. Try not to judge the weather. Just notice it, and see what you need, accordingly.
And then wiggle! Shake off the week behind you, release anything niggling from the weekend... and try to be in the weekend.
As I mentioned yesterday, this weekend might be a good moment to dive into some spring cleaning, tidying and decluttering. It's also beautiful out, so you might be drawn more towards the light (perhaps even the garden) ~ wherever your focus, bring some playful energy to these projects: think ritual over chore (+ music helps). What can you let go of? What needs a deeper clean? What can be moved around for a change of pace? (Remember to discard of things responsibly)
Weekending
The weekend invites us to loosen our grip on the everyday “shoulds” and let our inner wildling stretch and sigh. Maybe that means going bra-less, wearing more comfortable clothing, going without makeup and deodorant, sleeping in a little longer (or getting up even earlier), laughing loudly and unapologetically, being silly, dancing like a carefree wild being, taking yourself on long, meandering walks, being less attached to gadgets ~ and not tuning into the news. When we soften the rigidity or "rules" and demands ~ and instead follow our hearts ~ our intuition can be more easily tapped into.
I also recommend upping your game around ritual and delight. A good place to begin is at meal time... create a cozy setup with your favorite ceramics and cloth napkins ~ light the “special candle” you've been saving. Place your phones and gadgets out of reach, with the volume off. Take in all the aromas, colours, textures and nuances of your food. Acknowledge all of the energy it took to bring this food to your plate, and savor the experience. Say mmmm!
And then look at where else you might turn the mundane into the magical with a sense of ritual.
Self-Care Boosts:
Legs-up-the-wall: A rejuvenating daily ritual for tired legs also invites a sense of calm - it's great to do this as part of your evening wind down ritual.
"Vigorous" (but gentle) head massage: Massaging your scalp while folding forwards in the direction of your toes (with bent knees) is amazing for relieving tension and improving circulation and feels so good (especially if you regularly tie your hair up). Perhaps use a little rosemary infused jojoba oil for a special deep scalp treat.
Breaths of Joy: (see a link below) Do these every morning for an instant energy boost. I do 9+ of these daily.
Turn off any unnecessary notifications on your phone, turn the time limit setting on addictive apps, leave your phone in another room at bed-time.
Oil Pulling with coconut or sesame oil.
Epsom salt baths or foot-soaks.
Time outdoors.
Below you will find some great links I've curated for you, as well as some springy, sprouty journaling prompts that might help you get started with the practice of spilling it out on the page. (Another tip, to begin: when you sit with the page, write about your immediate surroundings: what can you see, hear, smell, touch? Report the internal and external weather... and let your hand flow from there. Sometimes the first mark on the page is the hardest)
Some links to guide/complement the above suggestions:
Springtime Journaling Prompts ~
1. Seeds & Sprouts
What seeds have you planted recently ~ in your life, your body, your habits, your heart? What small signs of growth are just starting to push through the soil? (Even the tiniest sprout is worth celebrating. Take note.)
2. The Art of Emerging
Imagine you are a bulb that's been sleeping underground all winter. What’s calling you upward? What would support your unfurling ~ light, warmth, rest, water, company, music?
3. Spring Cleansing Your Soul
What feels dusty or stale in your inner world? What’s ready to be aired out, let go of, or reimagined? (Think of this as opening the windows into your deepest self)
4. The Beauty of Becoming
In nature, nothing blooms all year. What part of you is still becoming, still forming? What would it feel like to be tender with that part, not rushing the process? How can you sit with trust in the process?
5. Feeling springy ...
Where are you feeling most alive right now? What sounds, smells, textures, or experiences stir that sense of aliveness in you?
(Keep a list. Let it guide you toward joy.)
The following are all very short videos ~
Mini micro movement "snacks" scattered throughout the day can be so juicy!
And with that, I wish you a fabulous, delicious, juicy, wiggly, playful, fabulous, nourishing, sweet and silly weekend.
