Gratitude Journaling

Gratitude writing is magic. By focusing on what’s good and what’s working in our lives, we naturally start to feel better ~ it’s like turning on a light in a dim room. I recommend doing this daily, even if it’s just for 2-3 minutes. Highlighting the bright spots tends to soften the harder parts of life.

Try jotting down 3-5 things you're grateful for ~ past, present, or even something you're excited about in the future. Then, you can shift to writing 3-5 things you really love about your life. Next, take a moment to appreciate 3-5 things you like about yourself. If you want to go deeper, recall a time when life handed you lemons, but you managed to make sweet lemonade out of it. Those hidden gifts are worth celebrating too!

Alongside gratitude journaling, I have long kept a “lovely day jar” ~ a jar filled with quick notes about sweet moments. When something lovely crosses my mind, I scribble it down and tuck it away. Every so often, I do a little lucky dip and pull out a folded memory, reminding myself of the beauty that’s tucked into my days.

Gratitude strolls are another fun way to lift your spirits. Take a walk, and silently say thank you for everything you notice—the weather, the trees, the people passing by. Spend 10-30 minutes like this and watch your mood shift. If you feel bold, say your gratitude out loud. You can even turn the walk into a compliment stroll, sharing a kind word with strangers like “Love your shoes!” or simply flashing a smile. It’s a lovely way to brighten your own day while sprinkling a little joy on someone else’s.
