Email #2 - Getting Started
Hello my beautiful friend,
Happy Sunday and eve of class...
Up here in the Catskills, the sun is shining, the wind is whirring and dandelions are beautifully abundant, like little bursts of sunshine.
Having just passed Beltane, we are in the second half of spring now with vibrant greenery popping and bird-song aplenty to please the senses. I even saw the first hummingbird a few days ago (about ten days earlier than usual), who, as always, came right up to my face and flew to where the feeder needs to be, “just a little reminder, sugar water please”.
I really love these annual markers, reminding us that the earth keeps spinning and the sun keeps rising ~ that spring always comes!
While we define these seasonal classes as “Cleanses” (really for lack of a better term) ~ I actually think of them as resets: an opportunity to return to ourselves as we get back in alignment with what works best of all. To me, these three week classes are less about giving up lots of things for a little while and “being really good” (then going back to old habits on day 22) ~ but more about checking back in with ourselves; looking at our ever-changing seasonal needs; and remembering or reinforcing practices that make us feel our best, as a springboard into all the weeks and months and years that follow.
During the fall and winter classes we focus on hunkering down, eating hearty nourishing foods; going a little slower. The spring class sees us unfurling and stretching as we reach for the light. We move our bodies more, and dine on lighter (but still nourishing) foods. For all the classes we are looking to build good habits; create beautiful rituals; remember we are worth it; and to connect more deeply with our bio-individuality while weaving in more and more self-care.
For this class we will follow a few core principles, which we will go over in the course of the first few days.
The first of which is connecting more deeply with the food we eat. This in itself is multi-tiered ~ relating to the actual food we eat; how it’s prepared; when we eat it; with whom and how! All of it plays a role in how we feel.
We are going to do our best to replace those foods that don’t agree with us, with foods that make us feel good. (This is known as the crowding out method).
This includes avoiding pesticide-laden food, overly-packaged food; ultraprocessed foods, sugar and alcohol. Eliminating these things from our diets (and replacing them with better, more delicious, life giving foods) is one of the very best ways we can cleanse our livers, feed our brain, nourish our mitochondria... and start to have more of a spring in our step.
I really recommend checking out the 2026 updated version of the “Dirty Dozen/Clean Fifteen” list (Please put coffee on the “dirty” list, making it a baker's dozen):
Dirty Dozen(if at all possible choose organic of these foods)
There is such a lot of fun stuff to explore across the course of these next three weeks, but for now, a little Sunday homework and check in:
(1) Let me know about zooms, whatsapp, buddies (as per yesterday’s email).
(2) Make your bed up with fresh sheets; get out clean towels, napkins, rags… make this a special occasion and celebration as you welcome your very special guest (yourself)!
(3) Read up on the dirty dozen/clean fifteen, as above.
(4) Peruse the notes on morning rituals, add to them to make them feel personal (and realistic)
(5) Spend some time outside ~ frolic with the flowers, look at the sky.
(6) Be alone with yourself to ask: how you really feel; what you are willing to release; what you wish to gain; what you're excited about; and why all of this matters.
That’s all she wrote,
Have the loveliest, gentlest, most mindful Sunday…
PS ~ once I hear from you all about whatsapp groups and etc., I can go ahead and set those things up.
Loads of love love love and more love,
Sacha xxx
