Movement ~ Week 1

To dance, to jump, to stretch, to make fun shapes … to move ~ is such an incredible gift. To move our bodies intentionally, is not a punishment for what we have eaten, but rather it is a celebration of the incredibly complex, beautiful and intricate human design. When we come to understand that movement can be (and should be) fun and playful - and that we can personalize it to fit who we are as individuals - it is SO much less daunting.

I encourage you to get up from your desks (or whatever your workspace) with much more frequency - to wiggle and stretch and take mini dance breaks. Kitchen discos before breakfast, an afternoon walk around the block, some pre-dinner jumping jacks, some light weight lifting, and top of the hour one-minute wiggles…

It can be really beneficial to take multiple mini-breaks for intentional movement - especially if you have found yourself not moving very much of late. Collectively, these mini moments can really add up and get you feeling more flexible, strong and supple - and will get your heart pumping.

Most importantly, find a way to celebrate your body, and its glorious design - any way that feels like you.

And be safe! If you haven’t exercised in a long time, start small and build up. Pay attention and notice the difference between “pain” and muscles working hard. Do NOT push yourself through pain.

Youtube of course has endless possibilities, no matter where you are on your journey. Or just put your favorite record on and dance it out and commit to a daily walk.

Below, I have gathered a few short exercise classes you might like to do at home this week. They don’t require equipment and can get your heart pumping, but please, as always, listen to your body.

Perhaps you would like to alternate some of these 10 minute workouts this week? Or maybe you’d like to do two or three of them each day?

Or try out these four movements (article with pictures):

And more for my yogis - these are my favorite on-line yoga teachers:

Tana Yoga (I actually have her membership, it’s very affordable at less than the price of one live yoga class, per month) Dancy/flowy for experienced yogis. She has a 7-day free trial for the membership if you want to explore: Tanastudio.net

For beginners - Yoga with Adrienne - she has a free 30 day January yoga challenge on at the moment (all days are still available)

For all level yogis - Yoga with Kassandra.

For more advanced yogis - Yoga with Cat Meffan She also has a 7 day January challenge on Youtube (all days are still available) as well as an online membership with a 14-day free trial and that includes a 31 day January challenge: https://mysoulsanctuary.co

Of course there is so so so much more to explore, but I thought I’d make it easier for you to “just begin”!

Now let’s wiggle!
Delicious!
