Nourishing Beyond Food: Simple Ways to Support Your Well-Being

While we definitely focus on what we eat, there are other small but powerful ways to nourish yourself ~ “The little things are the big things”.
Of course you don’t need everything on this list, and certainly not all at once. You can borrow, skip, or ease into it. These ideas aren’t just for this class ~ they’re for creating a healthier, more peaceful home environment, even after the class has finished.

Tiny Tweaks for Non-Food Nourishment:

  • Fresh Flowers or Plants: Treat yourself! Flowers remind us to slow down and appreciate life. A small plant or fresh bouquet of tulips adds beauty and joy to your space. Maybe ask friends for plant cuttings ~ this is a lovely way to connect to your pal and remember them whenever you tend to your plants.

  • Green Cleaning: Swap out regular cleaners for eco-friendly ones. Vinegar and baking soda with a citrus twist (think orange or grapefruit peels right into the bottle of vinegar) make cleaning a delight. Perhaps a little essential oil for extra oomph.

  • Water Filter: Refresh or replace your water filter, if needed.

  • Declutter the Fridge: Start by creating a clean, inviting space for your fresh foods. Replace plastic containers with glass or ceramic whenever possible.

  • Blender/Food Processor: Great tools for smoothies and dips, but no need to rush if you don’t have them. Borrow if you can!

  • Body Oils and Butters: Avocado oil, shea butter, and coconut oil make wonderful, natural self-care products. Feel adventurous? Try making your own balms.

  • Tongue Scraper: This daily practice helps keep your mouth fresh and supports overall health. A metal scraper will last forever.

  • Floss & New Toothbrush: Flossing twice a day is a must! Time for a toothbrush refresh? Try bamboo or ones with replaceable heads.

  • Glass Jars: Save glass jars to store leftovers. Always use glass, (or ceramic) not plastic, when microwaving and freezing (leave room for expansion to avoid breakage in the freezer).

  • Journal: Keep a notebook for reflections (or try an online journaling tool). Perhaps it’s time to dig out that lovely journal you have been saving for something special.

  • Vision Boards & Collages: Gather magazines, glue, and paper for creative journaling or dream boards.

  • Squatty Potty & Bidet Hose (aka a “bum gun”): Trust me, these are game-changers. Easy to install, and you’ll feel so refreshed!

  • Create a Quiet Space: Find a cozy spot where you can sit still and take mindful moments each day. It could be a garden bench, a favorite chair, or even a corner of your room.

  • Social Media Fast: Let’s practice “seeing the sky before scrolling.” Each day, look at natural light, breathe deeply, and journal before checking your phone. Keep your online interactions kind, positive, and healing. Perhaps “pause” or unfollow accounts that don’t feel nourishing.

  • Clear Your Schedule: Say no to over-scheduling. Instead, invite a friend for a walk, or a yoga class, or to explore a new neighborhood. It’s a lovely way to reconnect and refresh.

  • Head Massage: Wake up your brain with a vigorous scalp massage. For a zesty boost, use rosemary oil, or go for lemon or peppermint for an energizing kick.

  • Neti Pot: If you suffer from sinus congestion, this ancient practice can bring relief. Master the art with salt water and a ceramic neti pot.

  • Move Your Body: Dance, walk, hike ~ whatever makes you feel good. Wiggle, play, and move daily in a way that’s joyful for you.

  • Other Kitchen Tools: Lemon squeezer, tea strainer, ceramic mug for fire water, reusable straws… small comforts make a big difference.

  • Epsom Salts: for a relaxing bath or foot soak before bed.

  • Sleep Helpers: A diffuser with essential oils, white noise (a fan at the foot of the bed works great), an eye mask, and dark curtains can all be helpful towards creating restful sleep.
