Herbs & Supplements
While this class focuses on wholesome, nourishing foods, there are times when we need an "extra boost," especially when we’re stressed, overworked, or dealing with low immunity.
Here, I lightly touch on supplements that may help, but remember bio-individuality is key. We all have different needs at different times. My own supplement routine changes regularly. I’ll also mention some herbs to consider adding to your diet for an extra boost but I encourage you to research and choose supplements that align with your unique needs at this stage of life.
A few trusted supplement companies: New Chapter, Jarrow, Country Life, Garden of Life. I prefer supplements in dark, glass bottles when possible.
The supplement world can be truly overwhelming, so I’ve curated a short list to complement a nourishing program. It is advisable to choose high-quality products to avoid fillers that could irritate instead of heal.
A Few Suggested Supplements:
Spirulina/Chlorella: Opt for tablets if the powder is too much; Chlorella also comes in a (minty) liquid form.
Vitamin C: Add rose hips or hibiscus powder to tea or smoothies, or take 500mg of fermented C complex.
Vitamin D3: Take 2,000+ IUs unless you get plenty of sunlight, especially in winter months. Pair with magnesium for best absorption, and be mindful of getting real sun exposure without overdoing it (sky before screens).
Vitamin B12: A sublingual form is best for absorption. Many people, including meat-eaters, are deficient due to modern farming practices.
Organic Multivitamin: Choose one appropriate for your age and sex, such as "MyKind Organics Women’s 40+" or "Men’s Daily."
Other Supplements: Probiotics, Glucosamine Chondroitin (joints), CoEnzyme B (brain/energy), Curcumin (inflammation), Bromelaine (inflammation), Tart Cherry (sleep), and Magwell (magnesium, zinc, D3) for night time.
Herbs & Spices: Adding herbs to your diet, especially in colder months, can deeply nourish your system. Explore options like maca, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera juice, oatstraw, and nettle.
I often get asked what supplements I take. Though everyone’s needs vary, I currently use:
Supplements: Vit D3, Vit C, Probiotics, Women’s Over 40 multi, sublingual B12 and Magwell (magnesium/zinc/D3)
Herbal Blends: Ginger, oatstraw, hibiscus, peppermint, elderberry, and more.
Cold Months: I drink home made organic chicken bone broth to my routine pretty regularly for extra nourishment.
Please remember, this is not a recommendation for everyone ~ this is based on what has worked for me, and for some of my individual clients. If you’d like personalized guidance, feel free to reach out for a consultation, I would love to chat with you one-on-one.
