Dorry’s Nut Tacos
An international favourite from the early days of my cleanse & nourish classes!
This is literally now a "world-famous" and well-loved recipe that's been featured in Sacha’s Cleanses for years since Dorry herself introduced it to us - Dorry's Nut Tacos. I think it's a great alternative to tortilla/bean tacos.
(note, it's easier with a food processor, but possible with a blender, just will need to add more liquid - we use a blender)
ingredients:
1 cup raw nuts (you may use raw soaked almonds, or walnuts, pecans or any favorite nuts)
½ cup raw Sunflower or Pumpkin Seeds
1 ½ tsp Cumin
½ tsp of smoked paprika
¼ to ½ tsp turmeric and some cracked black pepper
1 bunch of fresh Cilantro
2 tsp wheat-free low-salt Tamari Sauce or coconut aminos
1 tsp fresh finely chopped Jalapeno Pepper (or to suit your taste buds)
½ tsp cayenne pepper or chili powder
3 TBS water (you will probably need more if you are using a blender rather than a food processor - slightly more moist but it's all good)
To Serve:
1 to 2 heads of Romaine or Boston Lettuce (or red or green cabbage leaves or large Spinach leaves or Collard Greens or Kale leaves, or Nori sheets) as your "taco shells"
1 medium chopped tomato
1 diced avocado
A handful of fresh pea or bean sprouts (it's ok if you can't find these, just omit)
1 scallion - chopped
1 lime for it's lovely juice
chia or hemp seeds (optional)
How to:
~ Blend all the "meat" ingredients (1st group above) in a food processor until chopped but not fully blended.
~ Lay a piece of lettuce (or cabbage/collard/green of choice, you can also use Nori rolls for this) on a plate - dollop on the nut meat and cover with tomatoes, avocado, sprouts, and a generous squeeze of lime.
~ If you have them, sprinkle some chia/hemp seeds on top of each taco too.
~ Sit down, look at your meal, take in the visual of color, the smell of lime.
~ Wrap the lettuce around the filling and eat it like a taco or wrap.
